Recent wildfire, severe weather and man-made events have shown us that the loss of Internet and phone services can take place abruptly, without warning, and leave neighborhoods and communities isolated. Our mission is to make our island more resilient by offering a simple-to-use, UHF FM radio network during severe emergencies.
The Newport County Community Radio Lifeline is a community-based, grassroots, emergency 2-way radio communications network serving Newport County, Rhode Island and adjacent towns.
The network leverages the power of the FCC's family-oriented General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). Family Radio Service (FRS) users -- operating at lower power levels and fixed antennas -- are also welcome to participate since many GMRS and FRS channels are shared.
Currently, over 950 Rhode Island families use GMRS radios. This is a great time to get one for your family.
